The Mirador del Rio was designed by the famous Lanzarote artist Cesar Manrique in the 1970’s. The theme of the building was to put into harmony the relationship between humans, art and nature.
At the entrance to the building Cesar Manrique made a sculpture. The sculpture has representations of a bird and a fish, created to show the elements of water and air. Manrique felt this location shows us how the elements of water and air can reside together in a natural harmony.
The Mirador del Rio is perched on the very edge of a vertical 500 meter hight cliff.
There is a light and airy wooden floor interior to the building. Outside and roof terraces with views North, South along Lanzarote and the cliffs plus views West to La Graciosa and beyond.
The main room has floor to ceiling glass windows looking out onto the view of La Graciosa island and the water strait in between Lanzarote and La Graciosa called ‘El Rio’. From the main room window there is just the vertical drop and amazing views.
There is a large wooden floor, several sculptures and an amazing chandelier. Large comfy sofa like seating and a cafeteria selling food and drinks.
