Introduction Playa el Ancla or Playa del Rey in Costa Teguise

Playa del Ancla is a small and sheltered cove type beach. Sand and sunbathing areas can be limited. Quiet lesser used beach.

Location:

Playa el Ancla is at the very Southern end of Costa Teguise out of the town.

Playa el Ancla description:

Playa el Ancla is also known as Playa del Rey. The reason for the Playa del Rey name derives from how close it is to the nearby holiday property owned by the King of Spain. Playa del Rey translates to Beach of the King.

The beach itself is safe and sheltered by the two rocky sea walls and further rocks under the water at the bay mouth. The rocks and rock walls stop large waves and currents entering the bay.

Water quality is very good. The sea is clear and good for swimming and snorkelling. This is also a good beach for swimming lengths as water is calm and undisturbed.

Sandy sunbathing areas are limited due to the rocky base of the beach. If sand area are limited there are areas of flat rocks to make yourself comfortable.

Access to the sea is over the rocks which can be slippery so take care. Slow and steady wins the race when entering and leaving the sea.

There is lots of parking on the Avenida el Salinero that runs parallel to the beach. Walking there from the centre of Costa Teguise along the sea front promenade takes around 20 minutes. There are a few nearby Barcelo hotels with almost direct access to the Playa el Ancla.

Facilities:

A few hundred meters south of the beach is Las Caletas that has some great restaurants.

Directly inland are shops and hotels at around a five minute walk from the beach.

Summary:

Playa el Ancla is a nice quiet beach with calm good quality water. Sand and sunbathing comfort can be a little limited. Entry to water is a bit tricky over the rocks. Parking is good.
