Introduction to Charco del Palo

Charco del Palo is a small quiet town on the east coast of Lanzarote in between Arrieta and Los Cocoteros.

The village is known as a place for naturism. Driving through the town on a warm day you will probably see a number of naked people walking around.

Charco del Palo is not exclusively for naturists so if that is not your thing you can still enjoy the coast, sea scape and tidal swimming pool.

Getting to Charco del Palo

There is only one road in and out of town. The road is about 3 km’s long. As you drive through the town of Mala it is a small turn on the right just after the Centro de Salud of Mala.

History of Charco del Palo

The isolation of Charco del Palo lends to its privacy. The town was started by a German naturist called Gregor Kaiser. He established it as the first naturist resort in the Canary Islands.

About Charco del Palo

There are no actual beaches in town. The coastline is rocky and rugged. The sea and bathing can be enjoyed everyday in the tidal swimming. On calm days there are several ladders and small coves where you can enter the sea and take a swim. Take care entering the sea when the sea is rough, this will happen more often on windy days and in Winter.

Walking / Trekking

There are coastal paths leading North and South out of town. Heading South will take you to another small town called Cocoteros.
Head North toward Arrieta.
Both walking directions will reveal some lovely unspoiled coastline. Remember to take water and suncream.

Other activities

On calmer days snorkelling and scuba diving can be very good. The crystal clear water and rocky sea bed make a great sanctuary for all kinds of sea life.

Amenities

Charco del Palo has several restaurants and a supermarket. The rest of town is mainly residential and privately owned holiday properties.

Overview

Charco del Palo is a lovely secluded town. It is always quiet and relaxed with nice swimming, walking, sunbathing and relaxing. Another of Lanzarote’s secret places worth discovering.
