Los Cocoteros is a small village on the east coast of Lanzarote between Charco del Palo and Costa Teguise. It is mainly a residential area with a community centre (locally known as ‘Teleclub’).
Take an early right hand turn as you enter into Guatiza, follow the road to the coast. There is just one road into the town.
There are three areas to Los Cocoteros. The main town, the salt plant and the small harbour.
Los Cocoteros town
In the main town is a small urbanised area of houses and a sheltered tidal beach.
There are no shops and one community centre that serves food. The community centre is often referred to as the ‘Teleclub’ in Lanzarote. In Cocoteros the tele club is called ‘El Riader’. It is open everyday from 5.30pm to 10pm and longer hours at the weekend, closed on Monday.
The Salt reclamation plant or Salinas. Real name is Salinas de La Caleta.
This is just south of Los Cocoteros is the salinas, this is still working today. The salinas first started working in 1940. There are hundreds of small man made pools filled with sea water from the windmill working as a pump. As the sun evaporates the water salt is left in its place.
This is an interesting structure to look around with salt still available for sale today.
The Los Cocoteros harbour and boat ramp.
South again from the Salinas de la Caleta is the small harbour. At weekends many camper vans flock to this area
Walking along the coastal path or one of many other paths is very quiet and peaceful. Heading North along the coast you will reach Charco del Palo and South takes you to Los Ancones then Costa Teguise.
Los Cocoteros is a quiet town with a tidal pool and some swings in the centre of town. The coastline is interesting with a harbour and a surf spot on windy days.
