During the last big volcanic eruptions of Lanzarote back in 1730 huge lava flows reshaped a huge section of the South West coast of Lanzarote. The eruptions and lava flows continued for almost five years.
As the molten lava flowed to the cooler sea the lava congealed into sharp jagged rocks.
Part of this volcanic lava reaction with the sea formed the small cove known as Los Hervideros. Hervider in Spanish means kettle as the waters in the cove look like they are boiling as they collide with the small overhanging cliffs.
Los Hervideros is a small steep rocky cove along a rugged coastline.
Large waves rolling in from the Atlantic enter the cove and collide dramatically with the cliffs. Water deflects upwards and outwards making an impressive site to see.
Amongst the rocks of Los Hervideros are a number of small paths rising and falling around the cliff. Visitors are free to walk around these paths as the twist up and down close to the large splashing waves.
