Brief description:

El Golfo grew as a fishing village based around a sheltered beach.
This quaint village now has some great sea front restaurants and the Charco Verde or Green Lagoon.

Getting to El Golfo

Driving and cycling:
There is one road in and out of El Golfo.
Take the LZ 704 off the large roundabout at the South end of Yaiza
Follow the road until the T junction at its end
True right and follow the road into El Golfo
There is parking on the left before you enter the town for the Green Lagoon.
Follow the road along the coast and right for a number of great restaurants.
Follow the town road to the very end for parking and the start of a nice coastal path.

By Coach:
You can also get to El Golfo by booking a seat on a coach tour of Lanzarote. Coach tours can be booked online with pick up points and around all the main tourist resorts.El Golfo town

About El Golfo

El Golfo town is a slice of relatively unspoilt and traditional Lanzarote.

There is just one road that goes through town and then stops at a dead end.

The Playa el Golfo to the south of town and just before the Charco de los Clicos, or Green Lagoon, is why the town was established here.

This partly sheltered harbour from the large Atlantic waves allows fishing boats to pull up on the beach.
The fisherman of El Golfo still park their boats on the beach today.

As tourism grew in Lanzarote the fresh fish was cooked in the local El Golfo sea front restaurants and enjoyed by visiting tourists.

El Golfo is a nice place to spend a few hours. See the Green lagoon then have a nice lunch on a sea front restaurant. After lunch you can drive to the north of town and take a walk along the impressive volcanic coastline.

Charco de los Clicos or Green Lagoon

Just south of the town is a high water lagoon that turns an interesting shade of deep green.
The Green lagoon became another good reason for people to come visit El Golfo

Walking in El Golfo

Best know for food and the Green Lagoon there is also a great coastal walk.
Follow the main road through the town to its end. At the end of the road is a car park.
North from the car park is an interesting coastal path. The coastal path from El Golfo keeps going until the beach town of Tenesar around sixteen kilometres away. Most people walk for a while then walk back.

The El Golfo coastal path keeps going along the coast through the Timanfaya National park, past some black sand beaches to Playa Teneza in the quiet town of Tenesar.

El Golfo grew from a traditional Lanzarote fishing village. This unspoilt part of the island offer great food, the Green Lagoon and a nice coastal walk.
